About Adele Nieves
Adele began writing after being challenged by a college professor to take a risk and pursue her goals. It took a transformational trip to India, a bout with a contagious parasite, and an intensive writing workshop before she would even consider it. Six months later she packed it in and decided to pursue writing full-time. As her writing evolved, she discovered her real passion lay with journalism and reporting; particularly after conducting a number of interviews for a book. The impact of people telling their own stories in their own words was a powerful one, and Adele has worked to perfect the process in a way that both brings out the truth as well as respects the humanity of the person being interviewed. She has also worked to develop her research skills, with a clear understanding of the importance of research and context to telling an effective, accurate story. Adele is especially passionate about covering stories and issues often overlooked by the traditional media, as they are usually of the greatest consequence for the majority of the people. Since Adele decided to pursue journalism and alternative media strategies, she's never looked back.
Adele has an extensive background in event planning, marketing, promotion, and sales in New York, Michigan and Las Vegas. Three years ago she decided to combine her professional background with her passion for women's justice, the written word and literary and political education by kicking her own activism into gear, the launch of an independent production company (Liquid Words Productions) and the compilation of her first anthology.
She is also an emerging poet, a former yoga coach, has a practical knowledge of written and spoken Spanish, is a strong advocate for diversity and active within women/people of color communities.
Adele is Essence of Motown's "2007 Writer/Author of the Year," for her continued hard work, her literary creativity, and her efforts to improve Michigan's literary community.
